We've seen how much wireless lanning has been taking off lately - at S20 there were about 2 of us with wireless rigs, and by S22 there were about 10! So we approached Melbourne Wireless about them having a booth at BDI, and they've agreed.
They're going to bring all the latest equipment that you need for setting up your own wireless stuff in your house, as well as tell you how to connect into the growing "mesh" of the wireless networks growing around all the big cities.
They'll do at least one workshop during the event, which will give you a chance to hear all about the wireless scene and how you can get into it yourself.
And of course, we'll have wireless running at the event, so bring your kit if you've got it and get rid of those UTP shackles!

by the time BDI gets into the early preparations stage, we plan to have some exciting stuff ready to demonstrate. keep posted to the website for details.

If you need a wireless card, check the $60 cards that vak is selling on the TIB page linked from http://melbourne.wireless.org.au - or see me at Shafted 22.

ya berg, we will setup a nice little area for us wireless enabled people i hope.
if melb-wireless are there then i suggest we get a little area with all us gamers that are part of melb-wireless or just on wireless so we can all show off our stuff together and be in a nice little zone doused with RF signal :-
i need somewhere to put the 4-5 laptops that i will have by then... few desktops... and a s***load of other wireless stuff including fat antennas :-)

Hey Anyone know where to get cheap Yagi Antennaes for Wireless? $480 for a D-link one is a rip-off, and if I made one home-made it'd just be a hack-job.

good way to get cheap stuff is,
if ya dad owns a buisness get him to open up accounts at all the computer warehouses so you can buy whole sale :)
then the more stuff u can buy bulk the cheaper it is, so then u go out and try and sell 100 antenas and u get the stuff realy cheap.

I might stick a print-out of the brismesh logo and stick it to my lappie .. just to prove that brismesh IS the shonkiest, POS, underdeveloped wireless network in all Australia.

thinking of bringing a 24dBi modded wifi antenna along, but the sucker is mighty big. instead i plan on having a wireless server running speakfreely (voice over IP), probably ircd and most definitely the sickest wireless counter-strike server (sicker than chooken's five-lappy cluster)
maybe we should organise a wireless clan war? all wireless clients on a wireless server?

Can't wait to see the workshop, the Bendigo Wireless ( www.bendigowireless.net ) crew are field testing that weekend, so I'm heading down to represent and see what we can learn/exchange as we're pretty new to the modding scene.
Anyway would be good to catch up with you melb wireless crew.

i'll bring around 15 cans and the required tools to make the cantennas tomorrow and should have a workshop on that up and running.
see you all tomorrow :D
