It's not official, but..

A group in South Africa are currently checking with Guiness to see if Big Day In 2003 was the largest event of it's kind ever held in the Southern Hemisphere.

According to them, Guiness has said that is is (or would be) but it would need to be made official.

I'll check on exactly what that means, but it looks like we may make it into the record books!

Thanks to all the players that made it possible - too many to be named (duh!) but if I could just get you all to come back to Telstra Dome for the group photo... say "Cheese"...

Well why not host anouther one soon and try to beat the world record ? YES if 1000 was easy to get I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to get 10,000 if you advertised on tv Aus wide :P

like it would be ran as a whole 10,000. best way would be to break it down into 10 groups of 1000. be alot easier to run.

I just love this assumption "if 1000 player lan was easy to get"

heh.

/me sighs.

You have no idea.

but I like the idea of 10000, but not in Australia. Too expensive to get everyone in one place. And having it in 10 places is really just one step better than everyone sitting at home. IMHO. All in one place is cool.

Let's see - that would be about $5M in Cisco network gear (but only loaned of course), $200,000 in venue rental costs, $200,000 in prizes, $15,000 in promotions...

Ok, anyone wanna bankroll that?

BTW, have now officially submitted BDI to the Guiness Book of Records. We shall see.

i was more aimming towards the lines of being able to effectivly manage such a large group.

Split them into 10 groups and have a admin team used to run 1 group of admins times 10.

then the finals can be held between the 10 groups to get the winners.

I have no idea besides that how it could be run well :\

/me thinks about possible location, although it might not be big enough: Jeff's Shed.
EACH section would be able the size of the Victory room, if not bigger. and there's something like 14 doors in from the LARGE foyer area to the presentation hall(s).

well damn..

if this photo does occur, i hope the admins and assistants would be placed at the front of the group..

I would certainly look forward to the day that i could look at a photo in the guinness world book of records, and be able to point myself out..

What was the biggest for The Gathering? 5800 was it, something like that.

Being realistic though, I think 1200-1300 is the next *achievable* goal for a large LAN here.
