Well ive decidied on the final list of comps. Although the original list had many more comps in it, i decided to drop it down due to a few reasons.
This list is whats gonna be played- and a comp will ONLY be added if i can be shown that lots of ppl would play in it over another of the existing comps.
Also Prizes havent been decided yet, but a rough timing structure is done, but basically all the the >4 player comps will be run on saturday while the 1-2 player comps will be run on sunday.
| 1. Pro CounterStrike - 5v5 | | 2. Open CounterStrike - 5v5 | | 3. Pro Warcraft 3 1v1 | | 4. Open Warcraft 3 1v1 | | 5. Open Warcraft 3 2v2 | | 6. Battlefield 1942 - 8v8 | | 7. Day Of Defeat - 6v6 | | 8. Unreal Tournament 2003 - duels | | 9. Rocket Arena 3 - duels | | 10. Natural Selection - 7v7 | | 11. Return to Castle Wolfenstein - 6v6 |
Rules etc will be done soon.
***Update*** Return to castle Wolfenstein has been added due to a slaw of support.

Erm? What happened to the RTCW comp?? I know a good 40-50 people including myself have bought tickets to BDI and non-refundable plane tickets to get to Melbourne for this! What's the deal??

rtcw comp was a total floop at agdc, only 1 team in the tournament rego'ed for it.
If u read above it says if there is enough support for the game it will be brought back in.
just get more people going that pay rtcw , talk to the people in your community, get them to buy tickets, get them to seend e-mails.
sure it will be put back in if thats the case.

i'd say its quite unfair towards rtcw to discard it completely
it does get quite a support (i dont suppose u'd care, but on shafted polls it was getting the most votes), but instead of encouraging it your cs'ers try to kill it.
afaik quite a bit of from rtcw community ppl are goin there
whats the point for us to get there? to play cheater strike?

no rtcw comp?
im only going for rtcw!
clan anarchy (one of the two top australian rtcw clans in australia at this moment) has a majority of members based in melbourne who will be attending for other games such as q3a (they're ex-quake punks) and we are going to be fielding a team at the big day in.

If the poll wasent rigged by the rtcw community pushing it on others to vote it would not have won.
People from other countrys event voted for rtcw.
instead of encouraging it your cs'ers try to kill it.
It was givin a chance at agdc, and failed. It dosent mean its gone for ever. Just means rtcw people have to show that teams will actualy sign up. CS'ers are not trying to kill rtcw.
E-mail Piccilo showing support for rtcw
plz only get people that plan to go to e-mail him.

The best thing to do is try and get more people from the rtcw community going to BDI that play it for there main game.
rctw seams to have a community but not a community that puts rtcw befor other games.

We'll probably look at some system where peple who have bought tickets can list their game preferences as well as booking seats soon so we know exactly what the people who are coming want.

Please put RTCW back in the comp list.
Ranger Bob and I have spent alot of money on PLane tickets and BDI tickets to comp down and lan it up in an RTCW comp.
Also Doc and snuffy have got tickets so thats 4 players from Rangers going specifically to play RTCW.
PLease ohhh PLease run a comp.
Ive emailed my support to piccola??
Thanks

i did, not to play rtcw tho :p
at this rate ill put it back in, i still need some prrof from players with actual tickets that they are comming to play rtcw OVER other comps.
for a game tat got 70% of votes in a poll out of ~300 people (even tho it got rigged) 1 team to sign up for it at AGDC was pretty poor, hence my original decision to drop it at BDi.

I was wondering why u have made the Q3 comp RA instead of Instagib? I was at shafted 20 and ran a Instagib server all weekend because no one was playing in the all weapons servers.....railgun only would be better for a comp because u have to be more accurate to get a frag....enuf said...

Team dot - the other top RtCW team that Deman is talking about, will have a team there, and since most of us are interstate, we are spending a considerable amount of money getting there, and bought our tickets on the first day available to ensure that our travel plans were not wasted.. For me this was going to be THE RtCW lan of Australia, I know a heap of people coming for it.. I guess we'll see whether our money has been wasted on false hope.

exactly just cause 10-12 ppl want a comp for a specific game, esp since 8 of em will prob already be in another comp- its not worth holding a comp for.

As piccilo said above, remember comp's will be over lapping so they can fit in the time frame.
That is y the current games were picked. Majority of people will play a game on the list then a game not on that list if they are both runnning at the same time.
rtcw would be close to being the only game to have a chance at being put on the list.

Bugger, so that means I gotta go out and buy all these other games so I'm not sitting around twiddling my thumbs for 47 hrs, that's assuming the q3 comp goes for 1hr...I'm a q3 addict, only game I have on the puter so I guess me and my boyfriend plus the rest of the q3 freaks who are coming have wasted $40...........but then again u do have to cater for 1000 ppl, so maybe I should just be shush :)

I agree with the list of comps because as I posted in the earlier thread about comps being planned I said its gonna be hard to find heaps of people to be involved in all the comps that were originally being thought about. Sure rtcw may have support here...at agdc it didn't have much and you cant expect it to have much more at BDI. I believe the list is fair as it has all the main games listed and plenty for 1000 people

How will you decide which teams play in the CS pro comp, and who will play in the CS open comp?
For those outside of Melb?
I'm in Canberra, and as far as I know, there is no BDI qual here. Theres only 2 cs teams (that I know off) going down anyway.

hey choppercow, get rtcw. trust me alot of q3 players pick it up quicker.
as for comparing ASCG (whatever) to BDI .... mmmm dont remember seeing headlines like "1000 ppl LAN" "southern hemispheres largest LAN" for it.
just from posts in this thread, i count dot, adr, rangers,a+ & rok. hopefully they have all emailed, plus all the ppl that havent posted yet, or are coming in singles/pairs.

easy, but not sure if i can say since i dont know all the details for it.
Also, i know what clans are good enough for pro and who arnt. So thats not a problem at all.
Guy wanting q3 1v1
had this talk a while back, people wanted ra3 1v1 instead of quake 3 1v1.
RA3 is a s*** load more popular then q3 1v1. As much as it would be cool to run comps for ever games and give out huge prizes for them its not going to happen.
reasons.
Popularity
server power
time scadual
man power
prizes

And ty 4 the game suggestion IcDeadPeople, I have tried RTCW, only single player tho because it was borrowed from my bro so I couldn't try it online, but from single player I found it too slow for me...but I'll have another go :)

hmmm pic ra3 turned out to be pretty much a disaster at agdc :o the games were so quick and boring and comming from an actual ra3 player cpmaRA is getting much bigger and also CPMA in general duels.
competition would be much more excited with the physics of CPMA and the the excitment of q3 duels. the cpm maps are smaller frags happen every second maybe less. 10 minutes a duel nothing better :D
and if ya need help with the ut2k3 maps and whatnot etc am always here :0 except for the next week HOLidAYS :D

i was warned off CPMA by bunches of ppl, ive been told its pretty s***.
what would make RA3 comps better? higher frag limit, each comp being played on arena1?

Hi. Don't knock down CS just coz RTCW hasn't been added. If you notice CS is the most popular game in the communities around the world and in Australia. If you don't play CS at shafted thats ur own issue, but other states have CS comps all the time and its becoming quiet professional, not just "coz its cool" ;]

Personally I like the idea of a RA3 comp as opposed to traditional duel/cpma comps - which are really only played by the die hard pro duellers and wannabes these days :>
RA3 top choice for q3 mod comp - just watch for cheats :>

not a fraglimit at all
a timelimit would be better say
10minutes max
games at agdc were going for as quick as 1min 30sec to as long as 3minutes
the final was pretty much over b4 i walked over to c-buzz's puter

i think its quite sad that u havent played cpma yet u dont give it a chance...
ra3 is no competition mod, cpma is FASTER... smaller maps and for ra3 it makes even gameplay as opposed to "Rail-Arena 3" even if you dont run the physics atleast run cpma ra3 with normal physics.
ra3 is no good for spectators... = no final's spectators... and in my oppinion duels OWN ra3 crap anyday... ra3 allows no map control... and what would a lan be without a good'ole q3 osp 1v1 comp...
if u run cpma physics on the "rail-arena comp" that gives the qw players some :)... as cpma is more like qw than q3 is...
ffs it annoys me that a mod such as ra3 which is "popular", has anyone thought that it is possible that the server have more people cuz they can!? 4 arena's one server... clan arena that can have heaps of people and the optus q3ctf servers are mostly full when the ra3 servers are... optus has 2 ra3 servers cuz of "popularaity" ... notice that optus has 2 ctf servers?
the only time the duel servers which is 1V1... notice max 2 players, get full is when ra3 groupies go cuz python plays.
ffs please no ra3 comp it sux @ agdc which was in my oppinion one of the worse shafteds i have been to as there was a ra3 comp.
plz make it osp 1v1 duel, if not atleast cpma ra3 and make ALL DUEL ARENA avaliable to play in... this includes arena 3 on ra3map1!!!

again- only reason i was told ra3 was cause cpma is bulls*** blablabl. i dont personally play the game so i just went with the side that had more support.
same with not being able to play on arena 3, cause i was told its too big for a dueling map.

piccilo: after going to the last agdc lan, where the ra3 duel comp was run, i'd have to say change it. It is far too annoying, as the ra3 mod itself isn't properly configurable for duels, rather team based games (lots of confusion last time).
Now I know of 9 people coming down from sydney just to play q3 (there's probably more). You might be under estimateing the size of the comp you're running. It took 5hrs to run a 15player ra3 duel comp at the agdc lan. Imagine how long it will take with 30 or 40 people (which i think is more probable this time around).
My solution is to change it to a team based comp... ie RA3 teams, or CTF. Everyone would be willing to play either format and it will be alot easier for you guys to run.
That is, unless you want to put the preference for cs people like last time and then tell me that "well q3 players dont complain so we dont care about starting the comp at 4am". If you start the comp at 4am, well yes, you probably will only get 12 people playing with 40-50 disgrunteled people vowing never to come to another shafted/BDI/AGDC lan again.
(btw, I'm not having a crack at you, I just want you to realise that 9 of my mates are coming from sydney and basing a holiday on this lan and the chance of winning some prizes in the comps - don't ruin the BDI for them like you did for me at the agdc lan)

if you dont personally play the game how can u make a judgement on which is better... how do u know it has more support? by votes on the shafted website? how do u know that the votes on the shafted site are even by people who attend the events?

I have a group of 4 coming to bdi, we're all quake goobers who play insta mod 9 times out of 10, I myself personally have tried RA mod about twice in the year I've been playing Q3 online, but have played CPMA heaps of times.....it is faster weap changing 4 sure, and the maps don't seem to be as confusing as RA's...whatever the comp will be I'm sure we will all have a go, plus we realize wankerstrike (oops, soz, I meant counterstrike), is a lot more popular than Q3, so we r lucky that u r at least having a comp 4 us

i dont want you guys to feel "luckey" cause im holding you a comp- all comps have reasonable equal priority, with the pro comps being just a notch higher.
it seems that a lot of ppl want this cpma stuff. ill look into it.
also- players in a comp makes minimal difference to time- the structure i use (in theroy) makes a comp with 6 people run around the same length of time as a comp with 32 people.

Just out of interest, any RTCW clans need another member?
